Divi Aruba All Inclusive Resort in Oranjestad, Aruba

By Oleg Ishenko

We (I and my wife) had a great trip to this piece of Holland in the Caribbean. The Divi Aruba All Inclusive resort was wonderful. It has a large uncrowded beach, lots of sun, friendly staff, good food, and nice people. Facility is a little older but we liked it. Weather was great.

Food was good. We enjoyed the Blue Parrot Restaurant the most (inside and outside). It’’s only open for dinner and you must make reservations but this was never a problem as long as we were flexible about the time. We tried the Italian restaurant (inside only), also only open for dinner. Did not think the food was as good as the Blue Parrot. The buffet restaurant was always good with a good selection. It’’s outside near the beach. A wonderful view but you have to enjoy eating with a few bugs and birds. Sometimes getting drinks at the buffet restaurant was a little trouble. We liked the casual dining. Shorts, shirts, and shoes were all that were required but you could dress up if you liked.

Night life is slow at the Divi Aruba All Inclusive, just the way we like it. If you are looking for an energetic party atmosphere, this is not the place for you. There is some traffic noise from the nearby road but it did not bother us.

Rooms did not have screens on the doors so you had to keep the doors closed and the air conditioner running. They told us to keep the burglar bar down on the door but we always felt safe. The air conditioners in both of our rooms were a little noisier than we would have liked. Swam and snorkeled on the beach at the resort. Tipping was not expected but appreciated.

You can use dollars easily in Aruba. No need to worry about getting local currency. We drank the local water the entire trip and had no problems. It’’s easy to get around by bus or taxi. Cost of taxi from airport was $18 one-way. Cost of taxi to downtown was $8 one way. You pay by the taxi not by the person. It cost $2 per person, round trip, to take a bus downtown that ran every twenty minutes from a bus stop in front of the resort.

To sum up: a great resort and a great trip. We are looking forward to come back next year.

Where To Go For Lion Safari

By Low Jeremy

In Africa, with the exchange of life and death among the animals and their environment and the dance of existence between the components of nature, death and living are two closely intertwined practical elements that make nature more proportionate.

African lion safari is one of such element. Lions are included in the big five constituents of the wild along with the revered buffalo, leopard, rhinoceros and the mighty elephant. Nature aside, game is the central attraction in the wilderness of Africa. By merely watching the prey being hunted by the merciless lions, that would mean witnessing how nature maintains its equilibrium. Which itself is a very intricate and delicate process.

Apparently, African lion safaris seem to be the passport for total adventure. They offer travelers the prospect of seeing wild animals interplay with the ecosystems. Majestic animals that constitute the circle of life. You may catch glimpses of how wide range of animals, of birds and of living species compete for survival. You may either do this while riding an open safari vehicle or through other means of voyaging the safaris.

To say the obvious, African lion safaris are found in their natural habitats which include areas such as South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Namibia. Meanwhile, most national parks offer sights of African lion safaris. These parks include world revered spots like the Kruger National Park, Chobe National Park, Pilanesburg National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Masai Mara National Reserve, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Samburu National Reserve and Lake Manyara National Park to mention some of hundreds of others.

All African safaris offer rare opportunities to catch a glimpse of creatures that may only be found in the wild. And as vast and diverse as Africa can get, it can provide unimaginable things from the strangest to the wildest creations there are.

Lion safari, one of the keen focuses for most travelers since it offers satisfactory game can be found in various sites in Africa. It is the passport for adventure where a guest may spot nature working within itself to maintain the equilibrium.

Lion safari is best encountered in its natural habitat. Some of the well-known sites of lion safari are the following:

Kruger National Park
Because of the Kruger’’s excellent game-viewing opportunities, it is included in the top priorities when it comes to lion safaris. It is created even before the emergence of some of the national parks that we now enjoy, which makes it the pioneer in the field. The preservation was initiated in 1889 to help protect the wildlife of South Africa, which then was faced, with the swelling problems of unrestricted hunting.

Pilanesburg National Park
Lion safaris are found in Pilanesburg, which is revered for its being malaria-free, thus the comfort of game-viewing.

Kalahari Gemsbok National Park
Because it is naturally intended to create a haven for wildlife animals, Kalahari is home to unimaginable number of animals. It is characterized by being semi-dessert, which borders in between Namibia and Botswana.

Chobe National Park
Found in Botswana, Chobe is recognized for harboring the largest congregation of buffalo and elephants.

Linyanti Game Reserve
Linyanti Game Reserve, on the other hand, nurses the largest prides of lions and equally large population of some good preys such as the elephant.

Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Being included in the list of most famous reservation parks, these two harbors the impressive tree-climbing lions and black-maned lions respectively.

Masai Mara National Reserve
Found in Kenya, Masai Mara collects a year round game-viewing and is the finest national park in all Kenya.

Serengeti National Park
On top of the heap is the Serengeti, which is also known for another name- the big cat central, which is so much closer to the truth. Since grasslands dominate the seemingly endless land, it is much easier to view games here. The migration of wildebeest and the collection of buffaloes and zebras make Serengeti a great place for the interplay of preys and predators. Yearly, millions of wildebeests come here between the months of April to August to seek better grazing in the far South.

Learn About Roulette Wheel

By John Hilaire

The roulette wheel is a marvelous example of meticulous engineering and subtle design. For years, the structure of the wheel has been of great interest to gamblers and players alike. It’’s understandable since many believe that winning in this game of chance lies within the roulette game wheel itself and its mysteriously placed numbers.

But are the numbers really arranged randomly? Or have they all been arranged methodically using mathematics and logic? The answer is both. The roulette wheels is designed using the countless subtleties of mathematics to ensure that the game has just the right amount of randomness in it.

The Basic Layout

Basically, the roulette game wheel is a large bowl whose walls are slanted and separated into several compartments, called pockets. The pockets of the roulette wheel are just large enough to accommodate the ball when the wheel stops turning. The roulette game wheel pockets are numbered 0 through 36 and alternately colored red or black with the 0 pocket colored green. In Las Vegas casinos, the number placement around the roulette wheels determines the randomness of the game. However, in online roulette wheels, it’’s a little different.

Most online roulette sites use a piece of software called a Random Number Generator (RNG) to determine where the ball lands in a virtual roulette game wheel. The RNG used in slot machines is quite similar to those used by online casinos. The software produces thousands of random numbers per second and when the roulette wheels turns, these numbers get extracted and forwarded so you can see on which number the ball rests. Using a set of rules that correspond to the odds for a game, the software gives an accurate outcome based on randomness and appropriate odds.

The Two Types of Wheels

There are two types of roulette wheels used - the American roulette game wheel and the European version. The only difference between these two is that the American roulette wheel uses two zeros - the single zero (0) and the double zero (00). This type of roulette game wheel allows the house an advantage of 5.26% which means that for every $100 bet you make, the house earns $5.26.

The European roulette wheel on the other hand has only one zero, the single zero (0). Therefore, as opposed to the American roulette game wheel which has 38 numbers, the European roulette wheel has 37 numbers from 0 through 36. The European roulette game wheel allows the house an advantage of 2.70% which is much lower than the American roulette wheel.

University of Tennessee Athletics: Their Fans and Traditions

By Mac Bartine

People either love or hate the wacky and fun athletic traditions of the University of Tennessee Volunteers. This article reviews some of the best-known traditions of the fans and the teams. You be the judge: are they fun, or over-the-top and obnoxious?

Everyone who has visited Knoxville, Tennessee knows that Knoxville and the rest of East Tennessee becomes a sea of raucous, orange-clad UT fans every time that game time rolls around. And game time rolls around quite often!

The Big Orange craze goes all the way from before the first home football game through the end of basketball season, and for many die-hard fans, it never stops! Heated debates about new recruits, how coaches are doing, and last season vs. next season keep Vol fans going while UT rests in late spring and summer.

UT football is more than a game; for many Vol fans, it’’s a way of life. The energy for each game builds to the exploding point by the time more than 100,000 fans line the path for the Vol Walk on game Saturday.

When the Big Orange scores, fireworks explode from the top of Neyland Stadium, and the 100,000-strong crowd roars Rocky Top along with the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. All together, it’’s an incredible experience to be a part of.

One thing’’s sure: the crazy enthusiasm that is Big Orange Country means a lot of support for UT Athletics, and the players and coaches know that the fans play a big role in the overall success of athletics at UT.

Another long-standing football tradition is UT’’s Pride of the Southland Marching Band. On game day, the band follows a parade sequence that takes them through the center of campus, into Neyland Stadium, onto the field, and ends with the “Opening of the T”, through which the football team runs at the beginning of the game.

Many young football players (and UT fans of all ages) dream of running through the Pride’’s big T!

University of Tennessee fans have also made “Rocky Top” a tradition at Volunteer athletic events. If you don”t know the tune before you go to a UT game (not very likely - but anything’’s possible!), you”ll definitely know it by the end of the game. The more good plays UT makes, the better you”ll know it!

In 1962, George Mooney, a former Tennessee broadcaster, began a UT tradition when he traveled by boat up the Tennessee River to Neyland Stadium for a UT football game. The idea caught on, and soon so many people traveled to games by boat that they began to call themselves the Volunteer Navy.

The Vol Navy has become a giant floating tailgate party for often more than 200 ski and bass boats, houseboats and yachts that arrive and drop anchor on each game day.

Here’’s something that appears it may become a new UT Athletics tradition: the UT basketball Men’’s coach, Bruce Pearl (who is in his much-anticipated second season at UT), had his players spread out to the exits of Thompson-Bowling arena to thank fans (both home and away fans) for supporting the team after their first home game, and invited the fans to come back. And Pearl was right there at an exit with them.

How cool is that?! It certainly stuck with a lot of the fans who were at the game, and has broght Tennessee out in larger and larger numbers.

These are just a few of the traditions that teams and fans follow at the University of Tennessee athletic events. Truly, going to see a University of Tennessee game is a unique experience that every sorts fan would enjoy!

Six Campgrounds with Beautiful Views Along the East Fork of the Black River - Apache National Forest

By Carl Zimmerman

There are six campgrounds in Apache National Forest along the East Fork of the Black River - all within a few miles of each other. We visited these campgrounds in late November, 2006. The Black River is more of a stream than a river - but it’’s beautiful, remote and pristine. If you”re coming from Alpine, AZ, as you head south on Forest Route 276, the campgrounds are in the following order: Diamond Rock, Aspen, Deer Creek, Raccoon, Horse Springs and Buffalo Crossing.

All six of these campgrounds are in a canyon that starts off narrow with beautiful steep canyon walls. As you pass the fourth campground (Raccoon), the canyon starts to spread out and the canyon walls become less steep. The canyon continues to spread out and the canyon walls continue to taper off and become very shallow at Buffalo Crossing campground with views of an open expansive meadow and the river.

The views from the first four of these campgrounds are very similar. Each of these four campgrounds is small with less than 12 camp sites. As the sun hits the canyon walls, the views are gorgeous and the tall ponderosa pine trees that spread out along the canyon walls are majestic. As you look out between the canyon walls, you”ll see beautiful views of the narrow canyon floor, often dotted with small meadow-like areas and beautiful tall ponderosa pine. Some of the camp sites overlook the river, but river views are obstructed from most of the sites by surrounding trees and vegetation along the river banks.

Most of the camp sites are well separated. Even though many of the camp sites don”t have views of the river, you can still hear the sound of the moving water which enhances the sense of beauty of the area. The overall feeling of the campgrounds is rustic, pristine and beautiful. The only downside to these first four campgrounds is that because the canyon is narrow with steep walls, direct sun light is limited to late morning thru early afternoon. If you prefer more sunlight, try Horse Springs or Buffalo Crossing campgrounds.

Horse Springs is the largest campground of the six with two loops (Polecat and Porcupine). Each loop has several rows of camp sites with one of the rows situated along the river. Camp sites in this campground are a little less secluded and private than those in the other five. Views of the canyon walls are very pretty and several sites have excellent views of the river.

The canyon walls at Buffalo Crossing campground are shallow and the area between the walls is much wider than the other five campgrounds in this area. Some of the sites are in a beautiful open meadow between the canyon walls and some hug the edges of one of the canyon walls forested by tall majestic ponderosa pine. Several of the sites in the meadow have views of the Black River. Because of the open meadow, this campground has lots of sun.

If you like shade, pick a camp site that is along the shallow canyon wall — you”ll still have a view of the meadow. The sites located in the meadow have no shade but are closest to the river. We thought that each of the six campgrounds in this area had beautiful views; but our favorite was Buffalo Crossing because of the wide-open expanse of the beautiful meadow between the canyon walls that allows a lot of sunshine.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Since all six campgrounds are so close together, I recommend that if you visit this area for camping, look at all six. I”m sure you”ll find a camp site that you will think has a beautiful view. We really liked this area and I”m sure you will too.

Happy camping!

Is DADGAD Tuning Cheating?

By Ken Hassman

The first time I heard a guitar player playing in DADGAD tuning, I thought I was listening to an extraordinarily talented guitar player. Not only was the music he made beautiful, but the overtones and sustain produced by his guitar had me swooning. I sat and listened to him for about an hour, then we started talking.

For those who don”t know (as I once didn”t) this tuning means you are tuning your low E string down to a D, your B string down to an A, and your high E string down to a D. Instead of the standard EADGBE configuration your guitar is now configured to DADGAD.

When I asked Doug what he was doing that sounded so nice, he told me about this tuning. I remember saying to him, “No wonder you sound so good, you”re cheating!” I was of the mindset that anything that made the guitar sound nicer without having to do the actual work of learning to play well in standard tuning could not be counted on as talent on the part of the player.

Fast forward 30 years and my favorite way to play my beautiful Martin HD28 is in this tuning. The sustain and overtones are what still get me about this tuning. And on a really great guitar it is even better. Over the last several years I have written two instrumental songs on my guitar in this tuning and am now beginning work on a third. One is a complex fingerpicked piece, the other is also a complex piece but it is done in chords with no single strings picked. Both are gorgeous and are made so by the this tuning.

It is possible to sound great barely doing anything at all. You can play beautiful chords by pressing one fret only. It is so enjoyable to listen to a guitar tuned this way that you can spend hours experimenting with one chord variations all over the neck. Once you get the feel for this, you can start doing what I have been doing for several years now which is to start learning real chords. There are numerous sites on the ”net and numerous books with lots of information on this. Once you get started you will end up inventing your own variations.

For one of the most enjoyable experiences you will have playing guitar I strongly encourage you to give open tunings a try. If you”re like me and have little time for playing every day, open tunings gives a sense of accomplishment and pleasure in a short amount of time. Happy swooning!

Worldwide Wilderness Survival: Snake Safety Tips

By Adrian Adams

A pocketbook filled with poisonous snake identification cannot truly prepare you for a face-to-face encounter with one of the most feared reptiles. Since there are both poisonous and non-poisonous snakes scattered around the world, it is hard to distinguish between the two when you come across them in the wilderness.

If you ever come across a snake in the wilderness, you should stay away to avoid sustaining a bite. To avoid becoming a snakebite victim when visiting wilderness areas around the globe, you can follow a few safety tips to stay out of harm’’s way. Below are a few suggestions to take with you on the road to appreciate and enjoy Mother Nature:

1) Walk with care and pay attention to where you step. When encountering logs, you should step on top (instead of over) before moving forward.

2) Always keep your guard up when picking fruit or encountering water.

3) If you should spot a snake, it is important not to tease, poke, harass or disturb them. Since snakes are unable to close their eyes, you may never know when they are asleep. If you have the unfortunate experience of meeting up with a cobra, mamba or bushmaster, you run the risk of sustaining a vicious attack if you go near their nest or they feel threatened.

4) When turning over logs and rocks, you should use sticks.

5) Especially during the night, you should wear proper footwear.

6) Before entering a bed or tent and putting on clothes, you should always check for the presence of a snake.

7) Depending on the destination you visit, you should familiarize yourself with some of the snakes that reside in the area. Cold, polar regions do not make a good home for any snakes, whereas places free of poisonous snakes include New Zealand, Ireland, Polynesia, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and sunny Hawaii.

Poisonous Snakes By Region

In North and South America, the wilderness may showcase American Copperheads, Fer-de-lances, Cottonmouths, Rattlesnakes, Coral Snakes and Bushmasters. In Europe, Common Adders and Pallas Vipers roam about. In Africa and Asia, there are poisonous snakes like Boomslang, Cobra, Gaboon Viper, Green Tree Pit Viper, Habu Pit Viper, Mamba, Sand Viper, Krait, Puff Adders and the Saw-Scaled Viper. A trip to Australia brings you closer to the Death Adder, Taipan, Tiger Snake and the Yellow-Bellied Sea Snake.

What to Do With a Snakebite Victim

If a snake bites someone around you, one of the first things to do is make him or her stay calm and restrict their movement. To reduce the flow of venom, keep the affected body part below heart level. Next, remove anything like finger rings that may constrict the body and cause swelling. A loose splint should be created to help restrict movement. If the bite swells or changes color, the snake was most likely poisonous.

Until medical attention can be reached, checking the person’’s vital signs is important. Blood pressure, breathing rate, temperature and pulse should be monitored. The bitten person may also exhibit signs of shock, such as paleness. The victim should be laid flat and covered with a blanket.

There are also things not to do with a snakebite victim. You shouldn”t apply a tourniquet or cold compresses to a bite. You shouldn”t cut into a bite with a knife or razor. And, despite popular belief, sucking the venom by mouth is not recommended.

Lost Tv Show - Why Watch Lost?

By Richard Sharp

For those of you that have not started watching lost yet, here is a brief overview of the story line of the cult TV show.

The survivors of a plane crash must work together to stay alive, they find shelter, food and start to build relationships with each other. The plane and all its surviving occupants had lost communication and were 1000 miles off course when it went down, so it is highly unlikely that they will be rescued any time soon. They are forced to deal with their inner demons, each other, and an island that turns up mystery after mystery.

The show is now on its third season (as of January 2007) and is going from strength to strength. Many characters have developed into household favourites and the story lines are still exciting, mind boggling and as interesting as ever. So why should you start watching lost? Here are some of the reasons that we can think of:
Everybody is talking about Lost and you soon will be too: It was one of the most popular TV shows of the 2004 season and 20 million viewers tuned in for the premiere of the second season. The third season is going from strength to strength and is due to continue to air in February 2007.

Edge-of-your-seat storylines: When one mysterious story line is solved, another, even bigger mystery comes is unfolded. Lost includes lots of drama, along with humour, plenty of action and edge of your seat, nail biting, cliff hangers.

Exciting characters: We get to learn about the lives of the 14 main characters, through flashbacks, but we only get bits and pieces at a time, making figuring out the characters a fun challenge. The episodes are usually focused on one characters flash backs per episode which runs along side their current activities on the island.

Mystery and suspense: Lost has more mystery than any drama we have ever watched. The island mysteries have us fascinated and in wonder. We have seen polar bears on this supposedly tropical island, an unseen force, black smoke, hatches and bunkers, and other people that were not on the plane. The biggest mystery of all is a string of numbers, 4 8 15 16 23 42, that seem to keep showing up. The third series has lots more mystery to offer as some of the characters have been taken to a second island by the others. The story lines are still mysterious and will keep you guessing and in suspense.

Interconnected characters: Many of the characters are interconnected in ways they do not even realise. While watching a flashback, we often see other main or secondary characters directly or indirectly involved with the flashback character. This could be a significant factor, but as yet there has been little indication of the importance, we will watch this space!

It’’s never too late to start watching. You can catch up by visiting our lost forum at any time. Remember lost series three continues in February 2007.

How to Choose The Perfect Hotel For Your Dream Caribbean Vacation

By James Penn

The Caribbean Hotel Association was first established in 1959 as a committee of the Caribbean Tourist Association. This was a private and public sector committee that was established to promote the Caribbean region in response to a specific requirement. In 1962, the CHA became autonomous. During its formation the CHA was strongly focused on the Caribbean tourism market and aspects like airlines controlled access, hotel reps controlled communication with travel agencies, and wholesalers controlled traffic and payments. At this point the hotels themselves were not included in the CHA operations.

It was finally realized that in order to fix any problems and issues it would necessary for the entire Caribbean hospitality industry to unite and this prompted the CHA to develop and implement several programs over the years. These programs included the following.

Achieving recognition for the Caribbean market as the most important aspect of tourism marketing.

Creating a database of all regional accommodation. This has resulted in the Caribbean Gold Book that is referenced by every travel agent providing services in the Caribbean. CHA acquired complete ownership of Gold Book Publishing that published the Caribbean Gold Book. This gave the CHA better control over its future.

CHA hotels were combined through CHARMS (Caribbean Hotel Association Reservations Management System) that offered global distribution to all hotels in the association. CHARMS generated nearly US$7 million worth of business for its member hotels averaging $131.26 per night.

CHA was busy helping to steer the course of the tourism and hospitality industry in the region through such developments.

Caribbean hotels offer choice accommodations that fit every budget and individual taste. Accommodation can be in the form of inns and guesthouses or private villas and luxury resorts. Families traveling together can choose from among any of the full-service hotels that cater to the children with special meals, programs, and activities and services specifically directed at kids. There are also resorts that cater exclusively to singles that are interested in meeting other singles. For those who prefer solitude and peace there are several small and remote locations that are extremely quite. Travelers interested in eco-tourism can avail the eco-resorts that are rapidly growing all throughout the Caribbean. If you desire an exciting nightlife then there are many resorts where the party goes on all through the night.

December to April is considered the busy season in the Caribbean. The weather in this period is also at its best with no chance of rain. Prices during this season are much higher and accommodation is difficult to find so it is recommended that you make your bookings early.
